Collaborating on Good Fences

Summer volunteer effort restores Shenandoah's stone pillars

Summer is always a popular time to visit Shenandoah National Park - this August and September in particular. Over this two-month period, a collaboration between Shenandoah National Park, Delaware North Parks and Resorts, The Corps Network and Appalachian Conservation Corp will help to update and restore stone masonry pillars at both Skyland and Big Meadows Lodge.

A masonry expert is leading a preservation crew comprised of young adults 18-30 in age. Lumber posts will be replaced and painted as needed. The stone piers will have mortar applied to all joints and foundation work will be performed as warranted.

This important collaboration demonstrates Delaware North's ongoing commitment to our national and state parks.
