Our Goal:

Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions 50% by 2020.

Why?

Shenandoah National Park is impacted by climate change. Research indicates that glacial surface areas have decreased 30% from the late 1970’s to 2009. Climate change also negatively impacts vegetation, wildlife, oceans, water resources, and human populations.

Our Commitments:

Install energy efficient technologies, reduce impacts associated with travel, and educate others about climate change and energy conservation.

How you can help:

Turn off lights and turn down the heat when you leave; carpool; and learn more about climate change.

Water is Vital in So Many Ways

Our Goal:

Reduce water use 40% by 2020.

Our Commitments:

Reduce water consumption by installing low-flow fixtures, installing shower timers, implementing a linen reuse program and educating associates and guests on water conservation.

How you can help:

Our Goal:

Achieve zero waste by 2020.

Why?

With nearly 1.2 million visitors annually to Shenandoah National Park we have a responsibility to reduce and manage waste.

Our Commitments:

Prevent waste generation through our purchasing program. Reduce waste entering landfills by promoting reuse and diverting recyclables and organics.

How you can help:

Please recycle paper, cardboard, metals, plastics, aluminum, glass, and household batteries. Use a refillable water bottle and a reusable bag. 95% of Shenandoah National Park is protected as wilderness, do your part to Leave No Trace…
