Whiteoak Falls in Shenandoah National Park

Whiteoak Falls

One of our all-time favorites, this trail is a must for waterfall lovers. The hike to the lower falls is about 2 miles round trip and rewards you with a powerful cascade surrounded by mossy rocks and rich forest. It’s a great option for a half-day adventure and offers several spots that are perfect for a picnic or peaceful pause.

Stony Man Trail

Located near Skyland, this gentle 1.6-mile loop is one of the most beloved trails in Shenandoah—and for good reason. It’s accessible for most hikers and leads to a breathtaking overlook where you can see the Shenandoah Valley spread out below. Ideal for families or anyone seeking a peaceful stroll with a stunning view.

Lewis Falls Trail

If you love waterfall hikes, Lewis Falls delivers. This 3.3-mile loop starts near Big Meadows and winds through beautiful forest terrain before arriving at the 81-foot Lewis Falls—a hidden gem tucked away in the trees. The trail offers a nice mix of moderate challenge and scenic payoff.

Bearfence Mountain Trail

Just a short drive from Big Meadows, this short-but-thrilling hike packs a punch. The 1.2-mile loop includes a fun rock scramble (great for adventurous hikers!) and leads to one of the few true 360-degree panoramic views in the park. It's a perfect hike for sunrise or sunset and offers a high reward for a relatively low time commitment.

The park is open, the wildlife is active, and the trails are calling. Whether you're after big views, cascading falls, or a quiet walk in the woods—Shenandoah is ready when you are.
